PAINTING WALLS FOR THE PLAY

I did the volunteer work for the play THE TAMING OF THE SHREW. Our work was to paint the walls. The process of painting was interesting. I learnt a lot from this work. Not just painting, but responsibility and the importance of group working.

Ms. Hadley taught us painting skills first. The wall painting is made up of three parts. One is contour line, the second is fill color and the third is ashes. The contour line was brown. The fill color was dark green. To paint a little grey can make the wall look real. Grey represents ashes. That was fantastic because the real walls were produced by our hands. In addition, skill is important and necessary. We learnt skills from our teachers, and we use these skills on our work. If we don’t have skills, we can’t finish the work.

We worked together. Everyone had their own work. Some students painted contour line, some students painted fill color and other students painted grey. We did our work effectively. Students who painted fill color made space for the contour line, so the students who painted contour line could paint the contour line later. Because of this, we finished the work more quickly than usual. We finished our work in 4 hours.

After finishing the work, some students went home directly. I knew that someone should to clean up. It should not be Ms. Hadley. The brushes and colors were used by us, so we must to clean up. I took the brushes and color boxes to the washing room. The water in winter was so cold, but I had responsibility to clean up. I washed the brushes and color boxes carefully and slowly. Luckily, our washing room has drying apparatus. I could get heat from the machine, so it was not so bad. To clean up was our responsibility. It was not Ms. Hadley’s business. If no one cleaned up, students will waste much time on cleaning brushes next time. We need to be responsible.

The company always chooses people has experience. If I have skills and have experience, the company will employ me. For example, an advertising company is finding a person who can paint. I can paint and I have worked for Ms. Hadley. I have responsibility. I work carefully. I am very likely to be employed. Employability skills can be trained now.

The walls that we painted were made for the play THE TAMING OF THE SHREW. I watched the play after finishing the painting work. Most students saw our productions in the play. The walls stood on the stage from the beginning of the play to the end. We were proud of our productions. I learnt skills from Ms. Hadley. I got many things in this volunteer work.

Volunteer works can develop our personal ability and responsibility. Volunteer works have no wage, so we cannot be careless. We should put our efforts into our work. To find interesting things in the work is a great way to improve ourselves. To do volunteer work can enrich our knowledge and experience.
