Penny's portfolio: MY SCHOOL CLUBS

I joined in three clubs this term. They are badminton club, TV series club and piano club. School clubs can help students to be well-rounded. Doing activities with classmates can promote friendship. It is a good chance to improve ourselves. Badminton, TV series and piano are my hobbies.

Badminton club is the largest club in GCA. The leaders were Leo, Only and Karen. There were about 10 students from 10-C joined Badminton club. We did activities in Nanjing Normal University. The activities started from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. We had 2 hour to play badminton. Running makes me breathless. Climbing makes me vomitous. Playing badminton is my favorite. Playing badminton is fun.

The first time I went to the badminton club. I played with a German. She played so well, and I found an interesting thing. Every time she got the ball, she always passed the ball to me. She let me serve the ball. However, person who gets the ball always serves the ball in china. We have different cultures. I couldn’t catch her balls. I felt more and more shameful, as a Chinese. I know it is not a shameful thing, but I gave up. I shouldn’t give up, but I did. Giving up isn’t the best way to solve the problem. Therefore, I need to face the problem and never give up. We can play badminton with foreigners in badminton club. It is great. However, there is a problem. I am not a player, so no one taught me badminton. Mr. Harries taught players, but no one taught some students like me. Every time, I just played with my classmates. I could not get the skills. I hope someone will help us to practise badminton.

TV series Club is a club which provides TV series to students. The leader of the club is Grace from 10-C. She provided us some interesting TV series. They were PRISON BREAK and THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA. These all English show. We could learn English during watching TV. We did activities on Tuesday. We had 1 hour to watch TV. We relaxed ourselves by watching TV. I like this way to relax. The goal of TV series club is to learn English, but the title always Chinese. This is not the best way to learn English. The English title will be better.

Piano Club has about 10 students. The leader of the club is Mark. I am a green hand. I joined in piano club to learn piano. Mark and sherry helped me a lot. I have played Chinese zither for 10 years, so piano was difficult to me. Chinese zither and piano have a big difference. Now, I can play the easiest song. Our Piano club just has one piano, so just one person can play the piano. That is not convenient. We need more pianos. The members of Piano Club are generous.

I had a great time in clubs. Students helped each other. Teachers used their free time to help students. Doing activities with classmates and teachers are my favorites. I want to join in more school clubs next term.
